Spilling Some Sacred Tea
How late-night phone calls became a space for truth, pleasure, and being deeply seen
Hello my mossy family!
I have some tea to spill.
And this one’s for the ladies.
Gentlemen, you may excuse yourselves.
—
If this newsletter has felt a bit quieter than usual, it’s because my attention has been divided.
As you may remember, I moved to Utah last June.
Pulled from my community and desperate for connection, I began having regular phone calls with friends.
Then something magical happened.
In talking with one of my best friends, Chelsea Henderson, we began having the most stimulating, hilarious, intelligent, goosebump-filled of conversations about life, marriage, sex, money, menstruation, motherhood, spirituality and living in end-stage capitalism as an embodied, spiritual woman holding onto hope for a better world.
It was awesome.
I’d leave our phone calls tingling all over, filled with joy and solidarity mixed with a sort of sadness that so many of us women live in isolation and rarely experience what if feels like to be so deeply seen and known by another woman on this journey.
For a tiny bit of back story, Chelsea and I met in a book club.
But not just any book club.
A Pussy Bookclub.
Literally…the book we read was the New York Times Bestseller Pussy: A Reclamation by Regena Thomashauer AKA Mamma Gena.
Chelsea and I were both embarking on journeys of reclamation.
Reclaiming our pleasure, both in the bedroom, our finances and our lives.
Reclaiming our joy, not simply for own sakes, but for the sake of a world so deeply in need of vibrant, creative, vivacious women bursting with joy.
Reclaiming our pussies, not as a commodity to be hidden, bought, sold, domesticated or desired…but as the sole source of pleasure and power in a woman’s life.
Sadly, the women’s empowerment center where we embarked on this journey closed its doors in 2025, just before I moved to Utah.
Hence the phone calls.
In the midst of our thrillingly vulnerable conversations, we thought often of our friends from that community who we had laughed, cried, danced and screamed with.
Women who had lost their weekly place of gathering, connection and facilitation.
I wished that we could share our conversations with them, so they might feel seen and companioned and know that they are not alone.
We whispered a tantalizing idea:
Should we start a podcast?
“It wouldn’t be much work. All we’d have to do is hit record and let it rip!” said Chelsea.
“Exactly!” I agreed. “I’d want it to completely unedited, raw and vulnerable…just like our calls. I want someone to listen and feel like they’re on the phone with a friend, talking about the shit that really matters.”
So, it is my joy to introduce you to The Modern Sacred Podcast!
Reclaiming wholeness together.
Once we got going with the podcast, we realized we wanted to create live spaces for women to connect and be seen by each other in real time.
But we wanted it to look different.
We noticed that many healing spaces for women are focused on healing our brokenness within a hierarchy. The participants come with a problem and the leader will guide you to the answers.
While I have definitely benefitted from these types of spaces and can appreciate their importance, I found my soul in search of a respite from the constant digging, unblocking and reprogramming of my patriarchally primed soul.
Basically…
I just wanna hang with my friends!
So, Chelsea and I have also launched the Modern Sacred Membership, a place to connect regularly with other women on this journey in real time!
The membership includes access to our monthly women’s sharing circle WITNESSED, plus a comprehensive Resource Library and discounts on specialty workshops with expert collaborators such as How to Use AI Intentionally as a Modern Woman, presented by AI Ethicist and Researcher, Sarah E. Carter, PhD.
For those local or willing to travel, we have in-person events and retreats being planned such as our fully catered Summer Pool Party happening in Colorado this July!
If you’d like to explore the Modern Sacred Membership, you can join for just $10/month and cancel anytime!
A final invitation
As you can understand, my writings for Moss on the Rocks will be a bit more spread out than normal as I adjust to this abundant workload.
But if you’d like to stay connected, Modern Sacred has a monthly Newsletter where Chelsea and I take turns writing about what it means to be a Modern Sacred Woman, plus any updates on events or juicy podcast episodes!
Psst! New subscribers will receive our Women’s Empowerment Spotify Playlist for FREE — just check the welcome e-mail after subscribing!
Thank you for your readership, friendship and support!
